Westover Baptist Parent's Day Out

Westover Baptist Parent's Day Out (PDO) provides loving care for children 3 months to 2 years old. Young children have the opportunity to relate to each other and experience developmental activities. The program is one day per week from 9:15 to 1:15. Parents provide lunch and all necessary implements for very young children. A morning snack is provided by the church.

History/Philosophy

The Westover Baptist Preschool and Parents' Day Out began as a cooperative service founded by the Baptist Woman's Missionary Union in 1971 as a way of providing healthy social and learning activities for their children. The women quickly realized that they had a mission in their own Arlington neighborhood. The mission remains the same today -- to provide for the social, cognitive, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth of children in an atmosphere of love and acceptance for all.

Religious Perspective

Spiritual growth is largely sensed in very young children and is affected by the type of care and nurture that surrounds the child. The preschool strives to provide an atmosphere of love and acceptance. Children are taught to pause a moment each day before snack or lunch to thank God for food, family, and friends. A monthly chapel time for older preschool children provides lessons of learning and wisdom gleaning from the Judeo-Christian heritage in an easily understood format. Parents are welcome to attend chapel time.

Administration/Licensing

The Westover Baptist Church Preschool/PDO is a ministry of Westover Baptist Church. The Church provides oversight of the Preschool through a committee composed of the pastor, church members, the preschool director, two teachers and a parent representative. The committee offers guidance in finances, the use of building/grounds, and policies.

Our school is licensed by the Arlington County Department of Human Services. We meet or exceed all requirements for a religiously exempt preschool under Virginia law.
