Children Are Important at Westover
Christ says in Matthew 19:14, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Children's Church, Sundays 11:00 am
Children's Church -- While their parents are in Worship, children ages 3 to 11 years, experience Worship and Bible Study geared just for them. The children at Westover Church reflect the diversity of our community as they joyfully interact and relate to one another. They are taught by two or more qualified staff members.* If the children need a parent's attention during this time, we utilize a Paging System or texts to cell numbers as provided.
Upon arrival, parents check in with the leaders, and the children immediately join the others in activities that teach Christian values as they use their imaginations while learning to take turns and help each other with games! They listen to and act out stories from the Bible, learn Bible verses through healthy competition, pray for one another and their families, learn and sing songs, watch videos to support what they are learning, and creatively express themselves through crafts they take home. They also celebrate one another's birthdays each month! This creates strong friendships and koinonia (fellowship).
Westover Church is a place you can really feel the love of Christ coming from the children. They are eager to extend a warm personal greeting to welcome your child or children!
Nursery Care -- On Sunday mornings there is nursery care for children ages 0 to 3 years in a supervised and loving environment.*
Special Events as Scheduled
We have special events throughout the year on campus and occasionally offsite, designed for children of all ages throughout the community. Your children are invited to connect and get to know one another in a safe and secure setting, supervised by adults.*
A highlight of each year is Vacation Bible School in the Summer, where 60-80 children from the church and the community get acquainted, learn Bible lessons, sing songs, pray, dance, share, have recreation, snacks and complete craft projects to illustrate what they have learned about the theme.
Other big events are the Easter Egg Hunt in the Spring, Family Movie Nights in the Summer months, plus a Family Event in the Fall and Winter. For more information, please use Contact Us quicklink or email email@example.com.
One big event in 2017 was attending the movie, “The Star: the Story of the First Christmas” at a large local movie theater. The students enjoyed being together and discussing the movie afterward. The characters in this Biblical adventure story illustrated courage, friendship and faith--all qualities we value at Westover Church.
* All church personnel who interact with children under the age of eighteen(18) are vetted by background checks in accordance with the requirements of the State of Virginia.
